Originally known as the South American Championship, the 48th edition of the Copa América has kicked off on June 20th. The United States is hosting the tournament for the second time, having charried out the special 100-years edition of Copa América in 2016. This year’s Copa América celebrates a special edition featuring sixteen national teams from all over the Americas.

How many games will the Copa América 2024 have?
A total of 32 matches will decide the new champion. The Argentina national team is the favorite to repeat the title won three years ago in Brazil.
How many games does a national team need to play to win Copa América 2024?
With six games, a national team can win the Copa América. They don’t necessarily need to win every game in regular time because, in the knockout stages, draws are defined by a penalty shoutout.
Which game opened the competition?
The opening match, played on June 20, was between Canada and the reigning champions Argentina at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Argentina got the victory.
When do the group stage games take place and where?
Starting with the opening match on June 20, the group stage will wrap up on July 2. The phase will conclude on July 2 when the results of these matches are known. Though group stage matches are almost over, here's a recap of its fixtures and the winners from each group.
Group A Fixture

Argentina dominated Group A, securing their spot in the knockout rounds. The group stage kicked off with Argentina facing Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on June 20. Peru and Chile battled it out the following day at AT&T Stadium in Arlington and finished the match with a draw. The remaining matches saw Argentina defeat Chile at MetLife Stadium on June 25, while Canada secured a win against Peru at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City on the same day. Argentina maintained their lead with a victory over Peru at Hard Rock Stadium on June 29. The group stage concluded with a draw between Canada and Chile at the Inter&Co Stadium in Florida. The results were Argentina dominating Group A and Canada following in second place finish.

Mexico kicked off the group stage with a win against Jamaica at NRG Stadium on June 22nd. Venezuela got a victory over Ecuador at Levi’s Stadium on the same day. The group saw Venezuela defeat Mexico at SoFi Stadium in California on June 26, while Ecuador secured a win against Jamaica at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The tournament continued with a draw between Mexico and Ecuador at State Farm Stadium in Santa Clara on June 30th. In a close match, Venezuela beat Jamaica at Q2 Stadium in Texas on the same day. With this victory, Venezuela secured the top spot, while Ecuador finished the group stage in second place.

The United States started their campaign with a victory against Bolivia at AT&T Stadium in Texas on June 23. Panama was defeated by Uruguay at Hard Rock Stadium on the same day. Uruguay continued the good run, defeating Bolivia at MetLife Stadium on June 27, while Panama secured a win against the United States at Mercedes-Benz Stadium the same day. Panama achieved a victory over the Bolivia at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando on July 1st. The United States faced Uruguay the same day, ultimately falling short at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City (MO). Uruguay finished the Group Stage in the 1st place, followed by Panama.
Group D Fixture
Brazil and Costa Rica kicked off the group stage with a draw at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on June 24. Paraguay faced off and beat Colombia at NRG Stadium in Houston on the same day. Brazil continued its winning streak against Paraguay at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on June 28, while Colombia defeated Costa Rica at State Farm Stadium. The last two matches will be played on July 2nd. Brazil will face Colombia at Levi’s Stadium and Costa Rica will face Paraguay at Q2 Stadium. The two winners will move on to the quarter-final stage.
When will the quarter-finals take place and where?
The two winning teams in each group make it to the quarter-finals. The winners will then advance to the semifinals, where the Copa América 2024 champion will be decided. Before that, there'll be a third-place match between the bottom two teams of the semifinals.
Now let's talk about the quarter-finals. They'll take place over two consecutive days.
Argentina will face Ecuador on July 4 at 9 PM (ET), in NRG Stadium, Houston.
The following day, on July 5, Venezuela will play against Canada also at 9 PM (ET), in AT&T Stadium.
On July 6, Colombia will face Panama at 3 PM (EST) in State Farm Stadium, Arizona.
On that same day, July 6, the second place team in Group D will compete with Uruguay for classification, at 6 PM (ET) in Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas.
When and where are the semi-finals scheduled?
The Semi Finals will be played on separate days.
The winning teams of the first and second matches of the quarter-finals will play the first semi-final match. It will take place on July 9 at MetLife Stadium at 8 PM (ET). The two winners of the third and fourth matches of the quarter-finals will play the second semi-final match on July 10 in the Bank of America Stadium at 8 PM (ET).
When will the final take place and where?
The two best teams of the semi-finals will plat the Copa América Final on Sunday, July 14 at 8 PM (ET). The venue for this final match will be the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The result of this match will determine which team wins the Copa América 2024 tournament.
The third place final match will be played on July 13 at 8 PM (ET) in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
